Thomas Wolsey – born in Ipswich from humble beginnings – rose to become Henry VIII’s right hand man and the most powerful force in England. But swept up in the storm of Reformation his career followed a dramatic course to a bitter end.

This play looks at his life through the eyes of George Cavendish of Glemsford, his servant and biographer during his glorious rise and his subsequent battle to survive the turbulence of King Henry’s determination to turn the world upside down in his pursuit of love and an heir. It also includes some of the women who shaped his destiny including his mother Joan, Mary Boleyn, his mistress Jane Larke and the woman who prophesied his downfall – Elizabeth Barton.

Black & White Productions are well known for producing site-specific drama celebrating the local history and characters of East Anglia.

Suzanne Hawkes is an award winning  local playwright who has covered a number of diverse subjects including RADAR & the Cold War, George Orwell, Refugees and the Windrush diaspora, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, Suffragettes and Giles the cartoonist. 

Free performance, but booking required as space is limited.
